CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

TINY COMBO

A  fun introduction to ballet and tap for those dancers under 4 years old. Class is designed to keep the young dancer interested and focused while also accelerating the development of dancer’s motor, listening, and social skills. This class requires girls to wear  leotard, tights, pink ballet slippers, and Mary Jane tap shoes (no ties). Boys are required to wear a solid color t-shirt, black shorts, socks, black leather ballet shoes, and black oxford tap shoes.

 

BALLET

A classical form of dance for many  centuries,  ballet serves as the foundation for all forms of dance and is essential for dancer’s technical progress. Every class emphasizes control, balance, alignment, and turnout through  barre and center exercises. This class requires girls to wear pink ballet split sole slippers (Capezio Juliet or Cobra/Bloch Pump or Elastosplit). Boys need to black canvas split sole ballet slippers  (Capezio Romeo Canvas, Grishko Men’s Ultimate, Sansha #1Pro).

HIP HOP

A social, street dance developed as part of the hip hop culture. Dancers are taught popping,  locking, breaking, krumping, etc. to primarily hip hop music in an age appropriate manner. Appropriate attire includes loose baggy clothing (sweat pants and t-shirts) and either tennis shoes or boots.

 

 

 

ACROBATICS

A class designed to strengthen dancers and increase flexibility and control while also incorporating tricks suck as walkovers, aerials, back handsprings, etc. Appropriate

attire is required for this class and  no shoes.

 

 

 

JAZZ/FUSION

A class that utilizes various styles and focusing on musicality and technique. Appropriate attire and tan jazz shoes (Bloch Pulse or Bloch Super) or Bloch Eclipse half sole.

 

 

STRETCH  AND TECHNIQUE

This class is dedicated to the serious dancer wanting to continually progress and push themselves beyond there own expectations to reach their dance goals.  Each class will include flexibility exercises, conditioning, and technical elements and progressions. Appropriate attire and tan jazz shoes (Bloch Pulse or Bloch Super) or Bloch Eclipse half sole.

 

LEAPS AND TURNS

An intermediate/advanced level class for dancers who want to improve their leaping, jumping, and turning abilities.  Dancers must be enrolled in at least one other technique class.  Appropriate attire and tan jazz shoes (Bloch Pulse or Bloch Super) or Bloch Eclipse half sole.

MINI COMBO

This exciting 60 minute class provides the basics of ballet and tap technique while increasing flexibility and coordination.  This class requires girls to wear leotard, tights, pink ballet slippers, and Mary Jane tap shoes (no ties).  Boys are required to wear a solid color t-shirt, black shorts, socks, black leather ballet shoes, and black oxford tap shoes.

 

 

CONTEMPORARY

A mixture of different dance styles and technically derived from ballet and modern. This class is combined with modern and lyrical, and students will engage in a different one of the  three forms in each class. Appropriate dancewear isrequired and tan jazz shoes (Bloch Pulse or Bloch Super)or Bloch Eclipse half sole.

 

 

LYRICAL

A type of dance fusing ballet and jazz technique that tells a story. Dancers learn to interpret the lyrics and meanings of songs to deliver a message while using classical technique. This class is combined with modern and contemporary, and students will engage in  a different one of the three forms in each class. Appropriate dancewear is required and tan jazz shoes (Bloch Pulse or Bloch Super) or Bloch Eclipse half sole.

 

MODERN

A form of dance that is associated with the expression of one’s creativity and individuality. Exercises and combinations focus on elements such as  spiraling, fall-recover, contract-release, improvisation, etc. This class is combined with lyrical and contemporary, and students will engage in a different one of the three  forms in each class.  Appropriate dancewear is  required and tan jazz shoes (Bloch  Pulse or Bloch Super) or Bloch Eclipse half sole.

 

 

TAP

A timeless form of dance where  dancers combine dance and  percussion as they interpret various types of  music.  As student’s advance to next level, the movements and rhythms also increase in complexity. Dancer’s may wear oxford tap shoes, but recital may require a different style.

 

 

Creative Movement

An introductory to dance and imaginary movement for our dancers ages 2-4 years.  Students will experience ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tumbling. Bare feet or pink leather ballet slippers.

 

First Steps

For our youngest dancers ages 1-2 years, an introduction of movement to music in their very first dance class away parents. Bare feet or leather ballet slippers are acceptable.

 

APPROPRIATE ATTIRE

Attire is an incredibly important part of a successful dance practice. Attire varies depending on the class. In the above descriptions, you can find the attire requirements for each style including shoes and clothing. If you need to purchase attire, you can visit our DA Store to order the correct items for your dancer. Attire can also be purchased at Showbiz Dance Wear on NW 63rd and May.
